Renewing a current certificate
First aid and CPR recertification in Barrie
The short version
One shorter day, if your certificate is still valid
$99 + HST
Recertification is $99 + HST: 3 hours online, then 5 hours in class at our Barrie centre. The new first aid certificate is valid 3 years; choose CPR-BLS and its certificate renews every year.
Recertification renews a first aid certificate in one shorter day instead of the full course, and you do not have to go back to whoever trained you first.
The cycle alternates: a full certification, then one recertification three years later, then a full certification again. Two conditions apply. Recertification is for the Intermediate level, and your existing certificate must still be valid on the day of your class. Once it has expired, recertification is off the table and it is the full course.
Check you are eligible
- Your current certificate is at the Intermediate level. A certificate issued before 22 June 2026 shows that level under its earlier name.
- It is still valid on the day of your class.
- It was issued by a WSIB-approved training provider. It does not have to be us.
- You took the full course last time. It is one recertification per certificate, then a full course.

If recertification is not the right fit
Your certificate has expired
Then it is the full course. Intermediate First Aid & CPR is $138 + HST, 9 hours online and 7.5 hours in class.
See the full course →You hold CPR or BLS only
A standalone CPR & AED certificate is valid 1 year and is renewed by taking CPR & AED again, at CPR-A, CPR-C or BLS.
CPR-BLS and CPR renewal →You hold Basic First Aid
The WSIB describes recertification for the Intermediate level. If you hold Basic First Aid, call us on 705-985-3478 before booking and we will tell you which course you need, rather than take a booking that does not fit.
See Basic First Aid →Recertification: common questions
I trained somewhere else. Can I recertify with you?
Yes. Recertification is open to anyone holding a currently valid Intermediate First Aid certificate from any WSIB-approved training provider, so you are not tied to whoever trained you first.
My certificate has already expired. Can I still recertify?
No. Recertification requires a certificate that has not expired yet, and that condition is set by the program, not by us. If yours has lapsed you need the full course. If you are not sure whether yours still qualifies, call us on 705-985-3478 and we will check it with you before you pay for anything.
Can I recertify online?
Partly. Recertification is 3 hours of theory online at home, then 5 hours in class at our Barrie centre. The in-class part cannot be replaced: CSA Z1210:24 clause 7.4 requires recertification to include a practical skills evaluation as well as a knowledge one.
What does recertification cost, and how long does it take?
Recertification is $99 + HST: 3 hours online at your own pace, then 5 hours in class. The full Intermediate First Aid & CPR course is $138 + HST, 9 hours online and 7.5 hours in class.
How many times can I recertify?
Once per certificate, and then it cycles. Full certification, one recertification three years later, then a full certification again, then a recertification. You alternate for as long as you keep it current. So if you recertified last time round, this time it is the full course. Tell us where you are in the cycle when you book and we will make sure you are in the right class.
Does recertification apply to Basic First Aid or CPR-only?
The WSIB describes recertification for the Intermediate level. If you hold Basic First Aid or a CPR-only certificate, call us before booking and we will tell you which course you actually need rather than take a booking that does not fit.
Is there a CPR recertification or BLS recertification?
A CPR-BLS certificate renews every year, and so does any CPR certificate held on its own. Renewing is not technically a recertification: you take CPR & AED again at the level you need, which is what people usually mean by CPR recertification or BLS recertification. The CPR-A or CPR-C shown on a first aid certificate lasts as long as that certificate. See CPR-BLS in Barrie.
