Basic First Aid & CPR in Barrie

The short version

The shorter course, for security licensing and small workplaces

$99 + HST

Basic First Aid & CPR is $99 + HST: 3 hours online, then 4 hours in class at our Barrie centre. The certificate is valid 3 years.

See dates & book

Basic First Aid & CPR is the first of the two workplace first aid levels. The WSIB adopted the current course names on 22 June 2026 under CSA Z1210:24. Licensing regulations and employer policies written before that date use an older name for this level, and they mean this course.

It is a shorter course covering the essential, most common first aid situations plus CPR and AED.

Requirements vary by employer, program and role, so confirm what yours asks for before booking. Not sure? Call us at 705-985-3478 or send us a message, and we’ll work it out with you.

Basic does not cover a requirement for Intermediate First Aid. If nobody has told you which level you need, Intermediate covers both.

Basic First Aid: common questions

My paperwork uses an older course name. Is Basic First Aid the right one?

If it names the first of the two workplace levels, yes. The WSIB adopted the name Basic First Aid on 22 June 2026. Same level, same certificate. If you are not sure which level your paperwork means, call us and we will read it with you.

Is this the course I need for an Ontario security guard licence?

Yes. O. Reg. 26/10 s. 2(1)(a.1) requires a valid first aid certificate at the level now called Basic First Aid to be given to the test administrator before you write the ministry licensing test. The regulation names this level, not the higher one.

Do I need Basic or Intermediate?

For a workplace, Regulation 1101 sets it by how many workers are on a shift. If more than five workers are on a shift, it sets the Intermediate level. At five or fewer, Basic is what the regulation names. Intermediate covers Basic, and not the other way round, so if nobody has told you which you need, Intermediate leaves you covered.

Which CPR level do I choose?

Basic First Aid offers CPR-A or CPR-C. For a guard licence the regulation names no CPR level. The ministry's training syllabus floor is adult one-rescuer CPR, which is CPR-A. Many agencies and sites expect CPR-C in practice, and it costs the same, so CPR-C is the safer pick if nobody has told you.

Can I take CPR-BLS with Basic First Aid?

No. Basic First Aid offers CPR-A or CPR-C. If you need BLS, take Intermediate First Aid & CPR, the standalone CPR & AED course, or Recertification.

How long is the course, and can I do it online?

Basic First Aid & CPR is 3 hours of theory online at home, then 4 hours in class at our Barrie centre, in one visit. The in-class part cannot be replaced: CSA Z1210:24 clause 4.3 sets a minimum number of hands-on practical hours that a fully online course cannot contain.

How long is the certificate valid?

It is valid 3 years. The WSIB describes recertification for the Intermediate level, so when yours is coming due, call us on 705-985-3478 and we will tell you which course you need.
