First aid & CPR for Georgian Practical Nursing
The certification you need
Intermediate First Aid + CPR-BLS
Choose the BLS level of CPR when you book, not A or C.
Georgian's Practical Nursing program requires you to hold Intermediate First Aid together with CPR at the BLS (Basic Life Support) level. BLS is the healthcare-provider CPR level, and clinical placements ask for it specifically, so CPR-A or CPR-C will not meet the requirement.
At Barrie First Aid this is a single blended course: 9 hours of theory online at your own pace, then a 7.5-hour hands-on day at our Alliance Blvd centre, minutes from campus. Choose BLS as your CPR level at checkout and you leave with both certifications.
Georgian College students save 15% with the code GEORGIAN, entered at checkout.
- Your Intermediate First Aid stays valid for 3 years, but the CPR-BLS certificate is valid for one year and is renewed every year, so in the in-between years you renew only the CPR part.
- For that yearly CPR-only renewal, take our CPR & AED course at the BLS level ($73 + HST) instead of repeating the full course.
- You keep these certifications current through Synergy Gateway to hold a valid clinical permit before each placement.
In a similar program at another Ontario college, university or private college? The requirement is usually the same. Confirm your own program’s wording, then book the same course.
Requirements can change and vary by intake, so always confirm with your Georgian program before booking. Not sure? Call us at 705-985-3478 or send us a message.

Practical Nursing: common questions
What first aid and CPR certification do I need for Georgian Practical Nursing?
Intermediate First Aid with CPR at the BLS level. At Barrie First Aid it is one blended course ($138 + HST, 9 hours online plus a 7.5-hour in-class day), with CPR-BLS chosen at checkout. The first aid certificate is valid 3 years and the CPR-BLS certificate renews every year.
Is CPR-A or CPR-C enough for Practical Nursing?
No. Practical Nursing requires CPR-BLS, the healthcare-provider level. Choose BLS when you register, not A or C.
How often do I have to renew for placements?
Your Intermediate First Aid lasts 3 years, but the CPR-BLS certificate is valid for one year and is renewed every year. In the in-between years you take just the CPR & AED (BLS) course ($73 + HST) rather than the full course.
How does this connect to Synergy Gateway?
You upload and keep your certifications current through Synergy Gateway to hold a valid clinical permit before placements. Keeping both your First Aid and CPR-BLS up to date keeps that permit clear.
